The Australian Government's Community Water Grants program offered grants to help local community organisations save, recycle or improve the health of their local water resources.

Grants were available for projects related to

  • Water saving and efficiency
  • Water recycling
  • Water treatment - improving surface and groundwater health
The Ararat Bowls Club were the recipients of a $25000 grant to install four water tanks with a 88000 litre capacity, a pressure pump and suitable piping to collect rainwater from off the bowls clubhouse.
 
The club contributed another $3450 to the project, and with 21 members assisted by secondary school students all working as on site volunteers clocked up 690 volunteer hours to successfully bring the project to completion.
 
The tanks have filled and are connected in to the existing sprinkler system and already have proved their worth with the club being able to water their synthetic greens when necessary.
